Final Entry

This semester was one of the most satisfying and educational semesters I have ever had. This is mainly due to the fact that I attended excel for business. This course allowed me to appreciate a program that I always had, but never really knew I could put to use. Not just that, but in addition to that it is a program that is very helpful to me and is one that I can use in my future for my business carrier.

What I have learned in excel and try every day to master is the fact that excel has so many various uses that can benefit anyone. For example I am looking to become a Financial Advisor and I will have to create presentations for my clients and make graphs and formulas. Excel has exactly all of that and it can take all my calculations into account and create a graph or table with that. That just is a life saver and can help anyone greatly. Excel is a program that has endless uses and you just discover new uses and functions in it every day. I love all the various functions that it has and all the formulas that you can create with it. I personally created a stock worksheet. In it I calculate all my shares that I own, how much they cost, the quantity and what price I would like to sell it at. I was able to see how much I would make if my stock went up to a certain amount as opposed to it now and see the profits that I would possibly make on every stock.

Concerning the text book I thought it was a great text book. Aside from it being the company that my mother works for I love the text book set up I love the explanations and step by step process that they take to explain the work. The material that helped me personally is what I have mentioned above about my personal spreadsheet that I created for my stock shares and it has helped me immensely.

I honestly think that is will be one of the most important courses I have ever taken in college. This being the fact because I know I will have to use this program daily in the future and being introduced to it now as opposed to being introduced to it in the future gets me a head start on learning and perfecting my skills in this program. I honestly think that because I got to do every case and read the book it helped me know the program much better and I will just grow from there with my knowledge in excel.

I think that this course in its entirety is special and will help me greatly in the future and I want to take this opportunity to thank you professor Jorisch on the wonderful skills that you have provided me with and the array of knowledge that I have picked up from being in your class. This will never be forgotten and every time I will use excel I will always remember where I first started with my knowledge in this program(In your wonderful Class.) and this I mean with all sincerity. Thank you very much for this wonderful semester and the knowledge that you have provided us with.

Case# 8

In case number 8 i had the opportunity to create a macro that showed the inventory from a company. I entered data and created cretain rules that each cell had to follow. Then i entered data in each cell and creted a new sheet with the new shipment i entered. This case was very interesting and i enjoyed it!

Case #7

In this case i got to experience the several functions that excel has to offer. I got to try out Vlookup, Countif,Sumif, Averageif,Dsum,Daverage,. All these functions or Formulas are very helpful if you have a big list of inventory and shipments. These functions will allow you to find what you are looking for in no time and save time and effort on the companies part. Overall very good case.

Case #5

In this case i was able to see how to freeze pains. This case gave me an example of how to enter charts and tables for certain orders and shipments that companies have. Through using tables it allowed us to filter certain information that was necessary for us or most valuable for us to know. In addition i was able to use the If function which is very helpful in excel and in general. Must say this was a very helpful case and i enjoyed it very much!

Case #6

This case exercise was one that i very much liked. The reason being that this shows me how a company calculates thier gross sales and it shows them how many units they sold throughout a certain annual period. I had the chance to use formulas again to do this specific task and very much enjoyed it. I also got to calculate the difference between pervious years annual sales and compare it to the current years sales. I also got to use the hyperlink which allowed me to connect one workbook to another. Over all i enjoyed this exercise.

Bean bag case

I found this class exercise to be very interesting. This was a classic case of what a company goes through quarterly or annually to see what expenses it occurs during its fiscal period and what profits it makes as well. This allows the company to see its cost to profit ratio and see whether they are making money through the year or if they are not. If the latter is true then they can see what they might need to cut back on and revise. Very interesting.

Case #4

This case gave me the opportunity to create pie charts and line charts. I found it very helpful for presentations because i think visual data on tables helps people see information much clearer. I was also able to take certain data on the charts and move them around from the horizontal position to the vertical and vice versa.

Case # 3

In case exercise #3 i was able to use the Sum, Min, Max and Average functions. In this exercise we also were abel to use the FV function which allowed us to see future projections and costs. This FV function is very helpful to figure out future bond values and make projections that might happen with your bonds or stocks including the % return ect.

Case #2

In this excercise i was able to format a workbook. Through the exercise i liked being able to add different type of cell styles and themes. I also got to play around with formula data entering which is a great utility that can be used in excel. Over all this was a great exercise and i enjoyed it.

Keyboard Shortcuts

I think that the keyboard shortcuts are very helpful in many ways. Usually it takes time to learn every shortcut, but once you know most of them you no longer have to go to the drop down menu to look for functions.

Most shortcuts start with the ctrl button and then followed by the letter of the operation that you are about to do. For example to open the create table box you press ctrl+T which brings down that dialog box. Another example is ctrl+A selects the entire worksheet. That is very helpful when you want to use a certain theme for the entire sheet.

Case #1

I thought this first case was interesting. It showed how to use the sum button, as well to use the copy button. I also got to use the Equation function and it allowed to divide cells and add cells as well as to get percentages.

Exercise Feedback

Yes, there's a lot of change. It's most noticeable at the top of the window.

On the home tab you have all the most used buttons that are very useful.

You press Alt for the key tips (short cuts) to appear. The old short cuts are also still intact and they have added new ones to the 2007 excel.

In the previous Excel I had to switch between print layout and normal view to fix problems. With the new Excel I can change it in print layout and not have to switch back and forth between them.

Over all the new Excel is very easy to use. It is very user friendly and is much bettter than the previous version.
